Aenigma ExSo what do you guys in the band think of the review? There's one bit I'd like to know what you think of in particular: 'Punishment Through Time', for instance, sounds like High on Fire if they were founded on Peaceville Three records instead of the speed-snorting mania of Motörhead. In all reality this song it's probably born from a love of all things Tom G. Warrior – especially how its title is shouted during the chorus – and the High on Fire similarities are perhaps unintentional, etc.'
I don't actually know who High on Fire are, but the Tom Gabriel Warrior reference opened my eyes :D I'd love to see a Paradise Lost / Triptykon tour. Jesus, imagine that Jenn! <3
The closing paragraph is excellent: 'The Plague Within also leads you to question the creation of art in later life and how an artist's formative years can once again inspire them to seek out the vital energy that rippled through their early work.'
The additonal mention of Carcass was a good one too - I wish I'd asked Greg what he thought of the latest Carcass when I'd met him - Carcass remain relevant and managed to create a modern masterpiece by sticking to what made them Carcass - not necessarily repeating any previous album, but keeping the core of the Carcass intact.
And now to the last lines in which I find VERY important...
'Consequentially, Paradise Lost have pounded a line straight through their lineage and have marched forth more relevant, heavier and diverse than they have sounded in years.' Perfect. I truly hope this is a PL sound that the band continue to progress with - and of course, change doesn't equate to progression, change is just change, it can be good or bad, but automatically saying 'the band progressed' just because they changed is pretty annoying (especially where Anathema are concerned, but that's another story) progression to me is taking what you've originally created - and in PL's case, pioneered - and adding to it enough to keep it fresh - now that is hard to do, but if a band manage it, then they've truly progressed well. This albums sounds like the true definition of a 'progressive' album. Relevant, heavier and diverse - these are the three traits Paradise Lost should forever maintain.6 days ago · 2

Asaf RosenfeldBack then when PL were doing all this electronic Pop/Rock thing I just wanted them so bad to return to their early Death/Doom roots and now that its finally happening I just want to hear their electronic stuff again... whats wrong with me? :((6 days ago · 1
Aenigma ExI'll give this a read! I love the word 'Quietus', I love Paradise Lost and I especially love Paradise Lost when they're being death/doom or death/doom mixed with gothic / traditional doom, so this is a pretty solid situation for me to be in :D Bring it on - a classic PL album is about to reveal itself!6 days ago · 1
